Snow Queen
What do you get when you cross an adventurous and gorgeous woman, a frozen lake, and a photographer?
The most epic portraits…
It takes a special person to willingly put on a dress in 20-something degree snowy weather. I took Aly to a couple local and state parks in Gaylord, Michigan. I was there to photograph her best friend’s wedding (more on that in another post), so in our down time we went to Otsego State Park, and a local city park to take advantage of the snow. The goal was to find somewhere close enough to the car so it was easy to get warm, yet somewhere scenic enough to show the beauty of frozen Michigan.
Otsego Lake was well frozen enough to venture out onto. There were even a couple ice fisherman out on the lake trying their luck. Aly put on a gorgeous red dress and ventured out onto the frozen lake, and I started shooting. Hands down the most interesting part, was walking on the beach for the lake while it had a nice layer of snow over it.. Think slippery from the snow, yet mushy like the beach.
The biggest of props goes out to Aly for braving the cold, I think these images are well worth the adventure it took to capture them. Quite frankly, I think she looks pretty badass..
